Do you really have to dry clean women’s silk shirts or can you just throw them in the wash?

you could put it in the wash but use cold water.. hot water will ruin the silk’s fabric and don’t put it in the dryer, let it air dry. i have a ton of silk dresses and shirts but i don’t live close to a cleaner so i throw them in the washer, just don’t dry them

When I’ve had silk shirts, I dry clean it for maybe the first 8 times I wear it. After that, I figure its worth a gamble washing them. Hand washing (or a hand-wash cycle in the machine) would definitely be the way to go, as you said. As for drying, you’ll want to use a no, or very-low heat setting. The downside to that is, you’re likely going to have to iron it, which is a sonofa… with silk.

normally you can hand wash a shirt in Woolite and cold water in lieu of dry clean it. normally manufacturers put a dry clean only tag on the clothes so they are not liable for the dyes and material after washing.

Silk is a delicate natural fabric that many love as it feels soft and comfortable against the skin. Because
silk is so delicate, often a silk shirt’s label indicates it should either be dry cleaned or hand-washed only.
In most cases, even if the label indicates the shirt can be machine-washed, this fabric will last longer
if you wash it gently by hand or by dry-cleaning. No matter how you choose to clean it, there are important
facts you should know so you don’t damage that precious silk shirt.
