How can I get stains out of these new silk shirts?

I bought a silk shirt that I managed to get some brown stains on, I don’t know what the stains were from. I tried to use Tide To Go pen on it but the area around the stain turned yellow, HELP!!

Silk Stain Removal

To spot treat oil stains from silk items, sprinkle cornstarch or baby powder containing cornstarch on item, let sit a few minutes then shake off excess and brush with a soft brush or cloth.

To spot treat water stains on silk, use color-safe bleach or a mix of one part hydrogen peroxide and eight parts water. After treating the stain, hand wash using a protein hair shampoo and dont twist or pull. Handle the silk gently and hang it to dry.

I know that there are many home remedies to use..but I would like to know-would taking a 100% silk top to the cleaners and getting it dry-cleaned remove stains just as well, if I haven’t attempted to remove the stains yet?

Yes, a dry cleaner should be able to get the stains out, no problem. If that’s what you want to do.

How to get rid of wrinkles in my women’s silk shirt without dry cleaning?

You can steam the wrinkles out with an iron by holding the iron up to the shirt, or you can buy wrinkle out. Or you can put a small wet towel with shirt in dryer for a few minutes.

Another way I do silk is to get an old piece of sheet. Wet it and place it on shirt. Then iron that always worked for me also. I still do my sweaters that way. inbetween drycleaning.

I have women’s silk blouses and do not know how to clean them. Is it ok to hand wash in warm water the Silk Blouses?

Your best bet is to take them to the dry cleaners. Sometimes you can get away with washing silk by hand with Woolite but many times the color runs or they don’t dry the way you want them to. If you can afford to buy the silk you should make sure you can afford to clean the silk.

since it is already ruined you can try this but depening on the textile blend it may over bleach the skirt. Use Hyrodgen peroxide and cold water to get out the stain. If the stain is organic material use HP and cold water it will eat the stain out of the clothes.. before the stain is set. If it is old you can try using bleach and cold water to get the stain out but you risk over bleaching your stain.

So I washed some red white and black silk items all separately and some of them bled so Ii washed them till the water was clear and I put all of them in the dryer to air fluff them dry thinking they would not bleed anymore. I was wrong all the red shirts have black on them and the white shirt has red and black! does anybody know how I can salvage these shirts?

Once any clothing is dried in the dryer, it is almost impossible to get the stains out.

The only suggestion I have is to, soak it in Oxy Clean with hot water and let it sit for several hours. Do this in the sink.

I don’t think it will come out.

Silk Shirts need to be hand washed in cold water, and separate.

If you’re not going to dry clean it then you need to either invest in Dryell ($13-15) or hand wash it in a mild detergent (Woolite) and lay flat to dry.

I’ve actually tried this on a new shirt I had spilled red wine down the front. Just mix Dawn dish washing soap in Peroxide soak the stain. It will disappear. I got the info on a site a while back.

100% Silk shirt came back from cleaners with a faded looking white stain on it. They paid for the shirt. Is there any way to salvage the shirt though as they don’t make this any more?

This is a quote from Heloise in case you don’t know of her she has many books on this subject. “once silk is wet and you start rubbing it you can chafe and break off the surface fibert Kaput! Ruined ” always take a silk garment to the cleaner..
